Bangladesh has expressed interest in joining the proposed "Mecca Joint Defense Agreement" alongside Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan.

Newly appointed State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir stated that Dhaka views the security cooperation initiative very positively.

He made the remarks during a regular press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (August 24).

Humayun Kabir stated that the government holds a positive stance on the defense pact initiated by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan. He added that the present administration will work to strengthen ties with Muslim-majority nations and diversify Bangladesh's engagement with international partners.

During the briefing, the State Minister also addressed recent criticism regarding his dual British citizenship.

Clarifying his position, he stated that he is a proud Bangladeshi citizen. He added that media outlets or circles spreading propaganda on the issue do not wish well for the country.
