A Dhaka court on Monday granted bail to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s private industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman in a case filed over the alleged assault, intimidation and forced resignation of a former CEO of Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited (BIFFL).
Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam granted the bail after a hearing, directing Salman to furnish a Tk500 bond. The case was filed in September 2024 by former BIFFL CEO SM Formanul Islam, who alleged that he was pressured to approve loans and investment facilities for companies linked to Salman, including Teesta Solar and Beximco Group entities.
According to the complaint, Formanul was pressured to approve a loan of around $185 million for the Teesta Solar project and a Tk200 crore zero-coupon bond investment.
