Bangladeshi among 79 migrants rescued off Greece’s Crete island

Greek coastguards rescued 79 migrants from two boats near the southern coast of Crete on Tuesday (August 25), said authorities.

The migrants were rescued near the port of Kali Limenes in southern Crete, according to a coastguard press officer.

A European Union drone first detected the two boats at sea. The coastguard subsequently launched an operation and rescued the migrants on board.

At least two women and two children were among those rescued. The group included Bangladeshi nationals as well as people from war-torn Sudan.
