Muscat-stranded Biman flight finally heads for Chattogram

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight that had been stranded at Muscat airport after a passenger died onboard has finally departed for Chattogram after the passenger’s body was removed and the necessary formalities were completed.

Flight BG-136 is scheduled to land at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

Shah Amanat International Airport’s public relations officer, Engineer Ibrahim Khalil, confirmed the development. According to the latest information received at around 1:50pm Wednesday, the flight was flying over Kolkata.

The flight departed Jeddah for Chattogram on Tuesday night. Shortly after takeoff, a 55-year-old passenger, identified as Sanoara Begum, became ill, prompting the aircraft to make an emergency landing at Muscat airport for medical assistance. She was later pronounced dead after being examined at the airport.

Although airport authorities initially sought to remove the body from the aircraft, permission from the Royal Oman Police was required under local laws and regulations. As the permission was delayed, the body remained onboard for an extended period, leaving the flight’s onward journey uncertain.

The body was eventually removed after the Royal Oman Police granted permission. Arrangements are underway to send it to Chattogram through the Bangladesh Embassy.

After completing the necessary formalities, the flight resumed its journey to Chattogram. The aircraft is scheduled to return to Dhaka afterward.

The aircraft operating BG-136 bears the registration number S2-AFP. The prolonged delay in Muscat caused considerable inconvenience to the other passengers as well.
