Five children drown in river in Chapainawabganj

Five children drowned while bathing in the Mara Pagla River in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 1:30 PM in Char Chakla village under Ward 3 of Devinagar Union.

The identities of the deceased children could not be confirmed immediately.

Local Union Parishad member Mujibur Rahman said several children went to bathe in the Mara Pagla River in the area. At one point, five of them drowned one after another. Locals later tried to rescue them.

Officer-in-Charge of Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station Ekramul Haque said police were sent to the spot after receiving the news. Details of the incident and the identities of the deceased will be confirmed later.
