Singer shot dead two hours after posting ‘Kill on the Road’ song

Indian singer and YouTuber Ankit Balyan was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli shortly after posting a video on Instagram in which he sang a song containing the line, “Murder kar de sadak ke upar,” meaning “Kill on the road.”
Balyan had posted the video from inside a car around two hours before his death. The timing of the post and the killing has since sparked widespread discussion on social media, although police have not established any direct connection between the song and the murder.
The incident took place on Wednesday evening near Aryapuri Nala Patri in Shamli city. According to local media reports, Balyan was leaving a gym and getting into his car when several attackers riding motorcycles opened fire at him. The assailants reportedly fired between 18 and 20 rounds. Balyan was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Balyan was known for his Haryanvi songs and had a significant following on YouTube and social media. He had reportedly worked on more than 50 songs. Several of his tracks, including Bhari Court Mein Goli Marenge Meri Jaan, featured themes involving weapons, violence and gangster culture.
Final Instagram Post Draws Attention
The Instagram video posted shortly before Balyan’s death has now attracted renewed attention. In the video, he can be seen sitting inside a car and singing the song containing the line, “Murder kar de sadak ke upar.”
The video was uploaded approximately two hours before he was shot dead, prompting questions on social media about whether the post had any connection to the killing. However, no such link has been established so far.
Police are investigating Balyan’s previous disputes, alleged threats and social media activities to determine the motive behind the killing. Investigators suspect that the attack may have been planned and are examining CCTV footage from the gym and surrounding areas to identify the attackers.
Previous Threat Allegations Under Investigation
Balyan’s family told police that he had previously received threats and provided the name of a person in connection with those allegations.
Police also said Balyan had posted a video on social media about a month ago alleging that some people from Haryana were demanding extortion money from him. He had reportedly said that he refused to pay. Investigators are examining whether that incident was connected to his murder.
Following the killing, Balyan’s family and local residents expressed anger and blocked a road, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible. His fans and fellow artists also expressed grief on social media and called for justice.
Police have yet to determine a definitive motive. Previous disputes, threats, financial issues and other possible reasons are being investigated. For now, the song Balyan posted two hours before his death remains a striking coincidence, and investigators have not confirmed any direct link between the post and the murder.
