Broomstick procession, human chain held against TikToker Nazma Begum, husband in Fakirhat

Residents of Fakirhat in Bagerhat staged a broomstick procession, protest rally and human chain against TikToker Nazma Begum and her husband, Md Kudus, alleging harassment, filing of false cases and forcible occupation of land. The protesters demanded a proper investigation and legal action against the couple.

The programme was held around 3:00pm on Friday in Kamta village under Naldha-Maubhog Union of Fakirhat upazila.

At the human chain, speakers alleged that Nazma Begum and Kudus had been harassing local residents in various ways for a long time. They accused the couple of filing what they described as false cases against innocent people, spreading defamatory content on social media, demanding money and forcibly occupying land. They also alleged that people were being threatened with lawsuits and harassment and subsequently pressured to pay money to settle the disputes.

Mustafa Sheikh, a local Union Parishad member, said many residents had complaints against Nazma Begum and Kudus, including allegations of filing false cases and occupying land. He called on the administration and law enforcement agencies to investigate the allegations and take necessary action.

Fatema Begum, one of the alleged victims, claimed that Nazma Begum and Kudus had filed several cases against her and her husband, causing them harassment. She also alleged that cases were filed against different people and later settled through negotiations in exchange for money.

Another alleged victim, Awal Sheikh, said a case had also been filed against him. He alleged that people were being harassed through lawsuits and that money was subsequently sought through settlements.

A woman, who declined to be named, alleged that Nazma Begum and Kudus had occupied and were using her family’s land. She claimed that they were threatened with legal harassment when they sought to recover the land.

After the human chain, residents brought out a broomstick procession through the main roads of Kamta village. More than a hundred people from different walks of life joined the programme and called for an impartial investigation into the allegations and appropriate legal action by the administration and police.

However, Nazma Begum and Md Kudus denied all the allegations against them. They claimed that a group had made the accusations and organised the programme to socially and personally humiliate them.
