12 Bangladeshis detained for illegal entry

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 12 Bangladeshi who allegedly entered Bangladesh illegally through the Nalitabari border area in Sherpur. At the same time, three Hiace microbuses and their three drivers were also detained.

The information was confirmed by Naik Subedar Md. Nurul Islam, camp commander of the Haldigram BOP of the Mymensingh-39 BGB Battalion.

The 12 individuals were detained early Friday (August 28) near Border Pillar No. 1111 in the remote hilly area of Burunga Kalapani under Poragaon Union No. 1 of Nalitabari Upazila. Members of the Haldigram and Baramari camps of the Mymensingh 39 BGB Battalion carried out the operation.

According to BGB, the detained Bangladeshi nationals are from the Godagari area of Rajshahi district. They had allegedly gone to India illegally about a year ago and had been working there as laborers. As Indian police operations against illegal migrants recently deepens, around 30 Bangladeshis reportedly entered Bangladesh through the Burunga Kalapani border area of Poragaon Union at around 4:00 AM Friday with the help of brokers.

Acting on a tip-off, separate BGB patrol teams managed to detain 12 of them. The others fled in different directions into the Garo Hills. At the same time, three Hiace microbuses that had reportedly arrived

The BGB said the detainees were handed over to Nalitabari Police Station after cases were filed against them under the Passport Act.
