A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in the Shah Ali area of the capital. Police said the child was allegedly raped on Wednesday.
Police arrested the man, identified as Suman, on Thursday night. The girl has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner Md Akter Hossain confirmed the matter in a press release on Friday.
According to the release, the girl was allegedly raped on Wednesday afternoon in the area adjacent to the Royal City Pocket Gate under Shah Ali Police Station. Her mother took her to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for treatment.
After conducting medical examinations, doctors said the girl had been raped. She was later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Police said the girl's mother filed a rape case against Suman, a local resident, with Shah Ali Police Station. Police later conducted a drive and arrested him from his residence on Thursday night.
