Bus driver arrested after hitting pedestrian in Jatrabari

Traffic police detained a bus along with its driver while attempting to flee after running over a pedestrian in the Kutubkhali area of Jatrabari in the capital on Sunday.

The pedestrian died on the spot. However, the identity of the deceased could not be immediately confirmed.

The detained driver was identified as Md Saiful, 26.

The accident took place around 10:50 AM on Sunday (August 30).

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Media and Public Relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md Akter Hossain said a speeding bus hit a pedestrian in the Kutubkhali area and tried to escape. On-duty traffic police immediately blocked the road, chased the vehicle, and intercepted the bus along with the driver in the Shanir Akhra area.

The DMP official added that the pedestrian died on the spot after being crushed under the bus wheels. The body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Jatrabari Traffic Zone handed over the driver and the seized bus to Jatrabari Police Station for further legal action, he noted.
