Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam stated that meat must be sold from designated shops bearing the health inspection seal of the city corporation.

The DSCC Administrator made the remarks on Monday (August 31) following the inauguration of a modern slaughterhouse in the capital's Hazaribagh area.

Abdus Salam stated that to ensure safety, every piece of meat must bear the Dhaka City Corporation seal. Meat sold without the official seal will be seized, and punitive measures will be taken against shops selling illegally slaughtered meat.

The DSCC Administrator emphasized that animals cannot be slaughtered in markets outside designated slaughterhouses. Fines will be imposed on anyone slaughtering animals at unauthorized locations, and shops found selling illegally slaughtered meat will be shut down.

He noted that when meat is brought from outside sources, there is no way to verify whether the animal was properly slaughtered, healthy, or disease-free, or whether buffalo meat is being sold as beef. To ensure quality and authenticity, animals must be slaughtered at designated facilities.

Ensuring the mandatory presence of health officials at slaughterhouses, the DSCC Administrator warned that health officers and staff must be present during animal slaughter. Disciplinary action will be taken against anyone absent from duty.
