Two ex-MPs Solaiman, Mohiuddin shown arrested 

 
A Dhaka court on Monday ordered that former Awami League MPs Solaiman Selim, son of Haji Selim and Dr Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin be shown arrested in two cases filed with Paltan Police Station over the killing of BNP activist Mokbul Hossain and an alleged attack on the BNP’s Nayapaltan office.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam passed the orders following separate petitions by the investigating officers.

The two accused were produced before the court under tight security. Their lawyer, Sri Pran Nath, sought bail, while prosecutors opposed the petitions. The court subsequently granted the investigators pleas. According to the case documents, police and the then ruling-party supporters attacked the BNP’s Nayapaltan office on December 7, 2022, ahead of the party’s December 10 mass rally. Gunfire, cocktail explosions and tear gas were reported during the operation.

BNP activist Mokbul Hossain sustained gunshot injuries and was later declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. A murder case was subsequently filed with Paltan Police Station.

Investigators allege that Solaiman (35) and Mohiuddin(76) played behind-the-scenes roles in the incident, including arranging funds and issuing instructions to suppress the political opposition.

Both men are currently detained at Keraniganj Central Jail.
