Agricultural products will become Bangladesh's main export in the future as the government works to ensure fair prices for farmers, Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Aminur Rashid said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a discussion organised by Cumilla Metropolitan BNP to mark the party's founding anniversary at Cumilla District Shilpakala Academy, he said ensuring fair prices for farmers would strengthen the country's economy.
“The development of agriculture means the development of the country,” the minister said, adding that the government was prepared to take necessary steps for the welfare of farmers.
He said the government was committed to building a stronger agricultural sector and ensuring better returns for farmers.
Addressing party leaders and activists, the minister urged them to work for the welfare of the people and uphold integrity between their words, thoughts and actions.
He said the younger generation was increasingly aware and expected political leaders to demonstrate their commitments through their actions.
Cumilla Metropolitan BNP President and Cumilla Development Authority Chairman Udbatul Bari Abu chaired the meeting, which was attended by BNP leaders and activists.
