Woman raped in train dining-car in Adamdighi, 5 sued

A 42-year-old woman was reportedly raped inside the dining car of a moving train while police were on duty in the Santahar Railway Police Station area of Adamdighi, Bogura.

Police arrested a dining car employee, Abu Bakkar Siddique, 24, in connection with the incident. He was sent to court on Tuesday morning.

The arrestee, Abu Bakkar Siddique, is the son of late Masud Rana of Abdulpur village in Lalpur upazila of Natore. The incident caused panic among train passengers.

On Monday night (August 31), the woman mistakenly boarded the dining car of the Kurigram-bound 'Kurigram Express' intercity train from Dhaka to go to Sirajganj.

Allegations suggest that dining car employee Abu Bakkar Siddique and several others forcibly raped her inside the compartment. When she screamed for help, fellow passengers rushed to her rescue and alerted the police.

Passengers on the train expressed fear over the incident and voiced anger over the conduct of police on duty.

The victim later filed a case with Santahar Railway Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Five persons, including Abu Bakkar Siddique and two suspected police officers, have been named in the case.

Santahar Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dulal Uddin said one person has been arrested in connection with the incident. He added that the victim noted the involvement of police members in her complaint, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
