18 land officials show-caused in Narayanganj

NARAYANGANJ, Sept 1: Eighteen officials and employees, including two assistant commissioners (land), have been served show-cause notices following a surprise inspection by the state minister for land at three land offices in Narayanganj.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Raihan Kabir confirmed the matter on Monday afternoon.

State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin visited the offices of three land circles in Khanpur area of the city around 8:30am on Monday.

He expressed dissatisfaction after finding officials and employees absent at two of the offices despite many of their names being signed in the attendance registers beforehand.

“Many employees had already marked their attendance despite not being present. This is in no way acceptable,” the state minister said.

He said the people are the actual owners of the country and providing services to them is the responsibility of government officials and employees, not an act of favour.

He stressed the need for officials and employees to attend office on time and ensure services through sincerity and a sense of responsibility.
The state minister also pointed to limitations in security arrangements at the offices.

He said several female officials were performing both administrative and judicial duties and that necessary measures would be taken to ensure their security.

During the inspection, the minister collected necessary information and said administrative action would be taken over the irregularities.

However, he stressed that the focus should not only be on punitive measures but also on changing the mindset of government officials and employees towards public service.
