Nepal flash flood: 1127 death recorded

The death toll from devastating flash floods in Nepal's Bhotekoshi River has risen to 1,127, Nepal Police confirmed in their latest update on Wednesday.

Authorities said the bodies were recovered from various districts across Nepal as well as neighboring India, according to the Kathmandu Post.

Police reported that 45 bodies were recovered from Rasuwa, 155 from Nuwakot, 59 from Dhading, 348 from Chitwan, 66 from Gorkha, 38 from Tanahun, 217 from Nawalparasi East, 190 from Nawalparasi West, and nine from neighboring India.

Autopsies and legal procedures have been completed for 1,113 bodies. Meanwhile, 95 bodies have been handed over to their respective families.

Details of 911 bodies have been published on the official police website to assist relatives in identifying their missing family members.

A total of 7,912 police personnel have been deployed in the flood-affected regions to conduct rescue operations, distribute relief, and manage recovered bodies.

So far, 6,541 people have been rescued from flood-hit areas, while 4,858 individuals remain missing. Six days after the catastrophe, hopes of finding the missing alive are fading rapidly.

As risks of further flooding persist, families are being relocated to higher grounds. Local authorities alongside police teams are also working to clear and repair damaged roads to restore vehicular movement.

The catastrophic flash flood struck last Wednesday morning, carrying massive boulders downstream into lower-lying areas, resulting in the high casualty count.
