Inu-Dipu Moni among 11 produced before ICT

Eleven accused including Hasanul Hoque Inu and others were produced before the court over the Shapla Chattar massacre before the International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday (September 3). 

Prison vans brought the accused from jail to the tribunal premises on Thursday morning under tight security. A three-member judicial panel of Tribunal-2, chaired by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, is set to hear the case today.

The other accused produced before the tribunal are former state minister for home affairs Shamsul Hoque Tuku, former food minister Dr Abdur Razzaque, former minister Dr Dipu Moni, former minister Abdul Latif Siddique, former IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque, retired major general Ziaul Ahsan, former DIG Abdul Jalil Mondal, Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee president Shahriar Kabir, Ekattor TV managing director Mozammel Hoque Babu, and journalist Farzana Rupa.

The absconding accused in the case include ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Dr Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir, Awami League presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Awami League joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former information minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, former state minister Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, former minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, former Jubo League chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury, former MP Saladin Mahmud, Gonojagaran Mancha spokesperson Dr Imran H Sarker, former IGPs Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary, and Benazir Ahmed, former RAB director general Md Mokhlesur Rahman, former army chief General Aziz Ahmed, former RAB additional director general (Ops) Lieutenant General Md Mojibur Rahman, former additional IGPs Sheikh Muhammad Maruf Hasan, Mahbub Hossain, and Monirul Islam, former DMP officials Md Anwar Hossain, Ashrafuzzaman, SM Mehedi Hasan, Harun-or-Rashid, Biplob Kumar Sarkar, Syed Nurul Islam, Md Asaduzzaman, retired additional SP SM Shibly Noman, and former Motijheel Police Station OC BM Farman Ali.

Earlier on August 16, the 11 accused were scheduled to appear before the tribunal. However, the prosecution requested additional time as production warrants had not been issued for two individuals and non-execution reports regarding the arrest warrants were pending, prompting the tribunal to set Thursday for the hearing.

Previously on July 27, Tribunal-2 took formal charges submitted by the prosecution against 41 accused into cognizance, while issuing arrest warrants for the absconders and directing the authorities to produce the detained suspects.
