No hawkers will be allowed to set up businesses along the road from Zero Point to Sadarghat, said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam.
He made the remarks on Thursday after inaugurating a tree-planting programme on the median of the metro rail corridor from Education Bhaban to Dainik Bangla intersection in the capital.
The DSCC administrator urged hawkers to voluntarily leave the area before enforcement measures are taken.
He said the city corporation was considering an alternative arrangement for hawkers by introducing a night market in Motijheel after regular office hours.
“Hawkers will be allowed to operate there after 4pm,” he said.
Abdus Salam said hawking could not be allowed everywhere throughout the week.
“Businesses must be conducted at designated places while following rules and maintaining cleanliness,” he said.
Meanwhile, DSCC conducted an eviction drive in the Gulistan area on Thursday and imposed and collected Tk 32,000 in fines.
