2-year-old drowns in pond in Meherpur

A two-year-old girl drowned in a pond in Gangni upazila of Meherpur on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Kona Khatun, daughter of farmer Mamun Mia of Chhatian village in Motmura union.

According to family relative Liton Hossain, Kona was playing near a pond beside their home around 11am when she fell into the water unnoticed.

Family members later noticed that she was missing and began searching the area. At one point, they found her body floating in the pond and recovered it.

Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohadid Morshed Chowdhury confirmed the incident and said an unnatural death case would be filed.
