Fake doctor arrested in Dinajpur

Police have arrested a man in for allegedly posing as a doctor, treating patients and issuing prescriptions using another doctor’s prescription pad in Chirirbandar of Dinajpur.

A mobile court later fined him Tk 50,000 and sentenced him to 15 days in prison without hard labour.

On the evening of September 2, Wednesday, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shahana Afroze conducted a mobile court operation in Balapara of Nashratpur, Ranirbandar, in the upazila and handed down the jail term and fine.

According to police, Monowar Islam, son of Ismail Hossain of Alojhary village in Khansama upazila and a medicine shop owner in Ranirbandar, had been running a chamber while falsely identifying himself as a doctor. He regularly treated patients and issued prescriptions using the prescription pad of Dr Rabiu Islam (DAMS) of Chattogram.

Police arrested the fake doctor after a patient allegedly received improper treatment and subsequently filed a complaint with the Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection.

Dr Rabiu Islam told reporters over the phone that although Monowar had been issuing prescriptions using his name and prescription pad, he had never given him permission to do so.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudun Nabi of the police station said the arrested man had been handed over to the court.
