
One person was killed and at least 15 others were injured in a clash between two groups over a land dispute in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Nazim Ullah, 22, son of Abdul Awal of Burishwar village.
Police and locals said Abdul Awal and Fazlul Haque, both residents of the village, had been at odds over a piece of land. The dispute escalated into a clash between their supporters after Jumma prayers on Friday.
The two groups, armed with locally made weapons, fought for about an hour. Nazim was allegedly attacked by members of the opposing group and died from his injuries. At least 15 people from both sides were injured and were receiving treatment at Nasirnagar Upazila Health Complex.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Md Obaidur Rahman said police rushed to the spot after being informed and brought the situation under control.
“Legal action is being taken in connection with the incident,” he said.
