Indian woman manages to take husband’s body home with Bangladeshis' assistance

The remains of 55-year-old, who was an Indian passport holder, have finally been repatriated to India after his wife obtained the necessary clearance from the Indian High Commission and Bangladesh’s Home Ministry.

Deceased Gautam and his wife, Jahanara Mishtry, entered Bangladesh on August 22 to meet their relatives at Barishal. During their return journey to India on Wednesday (September 2), Gautam suffered a stroke and he died soon after reaching Benapole.

His body was then sent to Jeshore 250-bed General Hospital for an autopsy. Jahanara proceeded alone to Dhaka where she managed to get the necessary papers and clearances to take the body back to India.

On Friday (September 4), Jahanara brought the remains to Benapole through an ambulance. After completing the necessary immigration procedures, the remains were brought into India through the Petrapole border point.

Jahanara expressed her gratitude to all the Bangladeshis including Benapole Immigration OC Saifur Rahman and locals who extended financial and other help to her. She claimed that she did not have any money and the locals helped her in transportation and bringing the body.
