Woman drowns, child killed in tractor accident in Dinajpur

A woman drowned and a child was killed after being struck by a tractor in separate incidents in Biral, Dinajpur.

On Saturday, Mosammat Mansura Khatun, 50, from Shahapara village in Biral municipal area drowned in a pond belonging to Messrs. Mahmuda Auto Rice Mill while collecting grass for cattle. Her body later surfaced from the water. She was taken to Biral Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared her dead.

In another incident, nine-year-old Mohammad Touhid, son of Mohammad Afzal Hossain Bana of Kamdebpur village, was struck by a speeding tractor at a place known as Dharmapur Agarbagan in Dharmapur Union No. 8 of the upazila.

Touhid sustained critical injuries in the accident. The tractor driver, Shamim, and local residents took him to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead.

Union Parishad member Sharif Uddin confirmed the matter.

At the time of filing the report in the afternoon, further legal proceedings were underway.
