Injured Hathazari student dies after 5-day battle

A college student died on Monday (September 7) morning while undergoing treatment at a Dhaka hospital, five days after sustaining severe injuries in a head-on collision between a private car and an auto-rickshaw in Hathazari of Chittagong.

The deceased, Mahin, 20, son of Mahabul Alam of Nangalmora union, passed away at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka at 9:45 AM, confirmed Hathazari Government College lecturer Md Abu Taleb.

The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday (September 2) afternoon when an auto-rickshaw carrying several examinees collided head-on with a private car near Hathazari, leaving the driver and students critically injured. Local residents rescued the victims and brought them to the Upazila Health Complex, from where they were transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) due to their deteriorating condition. Auto-rickshaw driver Ershad died on the way to CMCH.

Mahin remained in critical condition in the intensive care unit at CMCH before being transferred to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka two days ago, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning.
