Convicts sentenced to death, including Sheikh Hasina, have lost their opportunity to appeal after failing to do so within the mandatory 30-day window, International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam said on Monday (September 7).

Speaking at a press conference on enforced disappearances and human rights law at 12:00 PM on Monday, the Chief Prosecutor clarified the legal timeframe. He stated that the law permits convicts to file an appeal within 30 days of the verdict. Those who failed to appeal within the specified timeframe will no longer get any chance to do so later.

Furthermore, Md Aminul Islam stated that there will be no conflict between the law on prevention and remedy of enforced disappearance and the International Crimes Tribunal Act.

He added that all allegations and reports regarding enforced disappearances will be scrutinized before taking further action.
