The Power & Energy Training Academy (PETA) of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at United International University (UIU) has inaugurated a new Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Lab and launched a training course on PLC and industrial automation.
The training course, titled “Mastering PLC & Industrial Automation with SCADA and HMI,” was launched at the UIU campus with a focus on practical and hands-on learning. The initiative aims to equip students with industry-relevant skills in PLC technology and industrial automation and prepare them for careers in the rapidly evolving industrial sector.
Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia, Vice Chancellor of UIU, attended the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Dr. Md. Fayyaz Khan of the Department of EEE was present as the Guest of Honor. Prof. Dr. Siddique Md. Lutful Kabir and Prof. Dr. Raqibul Mostafa of the EEE Department were also present. Dr. Sadid Muneer, Associate Professor and Undergraduate Coordinator of EEE, presided over the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia emphasized the importance of developing practical and industry-oriented skills alongside academic knowledge. He highlighted the growing role of automation, smart technologies and modern industrial systems in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
He expressed hope that the newly established PLC Lab and training course would help students gain hands-on expertise and better prepare them for professional careers in industrial automation.
Prof. Dr. Md. Fayyaz Khan, the Guest of Honor, highlighted the growing demand for skilled professionals with expertise in PLC and industrial automation. He said industry-focused training can help bridge the gap between academic learning and practical workplace requirements, enabling graduates to contribute more effectively to the industrial sector.
Other speakers at the event discussed the expanding applications of PLC technology across modern industries. They noted that PLC-based automation is helping industries improve efficiency, reliability, precision and operational safety. They also encouraged students to develop practical competencies and explore the diverse applications of automation technologies in real-world industrial environments.
The newly established facility is expected to strengthen experiential learning at UIU and help nurture future-ready engineers capable of responding to the changing demands of the industrial landscape.
