Suspected thief killed in mob beating at BTCL office

An unidentified youth, aged around 25, died after being beaten on suspicion of theft inside the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, on Tuesday (September 8).

The victim was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in an unconscious state, where the emergency department doctor declared him dead at around 3:00 PM.

BTCL Office Assistant Md Saiful, who brought the youth to the hospital, said three individuals entered the office premises on Tuesday morning allegedly to commit theft. While two managed to escape over the boundary wall, one was caught and severely beaten until he lost consciousness.

In-charge of the DMCH police camp Inspector Md Habibur Rahman stated that the body has been kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy. Local police have been informed to take legal action regarding the incident.
