Fire damages server room in Rooppur Power Plant

A fire has damaged the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) office at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project site, destroying computers, air conditioners, critical documents, and internet server components.
The fire broke out at approximately 3:00 AM on Sunday (September 6). The incident came to light on Tuesday (September 8).
Project sources confirmed that the fire disrupted power supplies across two BAEC buildings and severed internet connectivity to several project facilities. Electricity and network connections remained partially offline across key installations nearly 40 hours after the incident.
According to preliminary reports, the fire originated inside the BAEC server room before smoke and flames spread to adjacent administrative rooms. Four units from the Ishwardi Fire Service responded to the emergency call and brought the blaze under control after an extended operation.
"Upon receiving the alert, our units immediately dispatched to the site inside the project premises," said Md. Shahidul Islam, Station Master of the Rooppur Green City Modern Fire Station.
"Computers, AC units, paper documents, electrical equipment, and server hardware inside the BAEC office were burned. The total monetary damage has not yet been quantified."
Md. Sadequl Bari, Deputy Assistant Director of Pabna Fire Service, stated that initial assessments point toward an electrical short circuit as the cause of the fire.
He added that a formal investigation will confirm the exact origin and cause of the outbreak.
