The body of a young man, who went missing after a sinking of a trawler due to a collinson with a ferry in the Bhairab River of Khulna, was found after seven days.

The deceased was identified as Rakib Khan. The body was found in the Kajibacha River in Batiaghata upazila at about 8:45 PM on Tuesday (September 8). Later, it was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital for conducting autopsy.

According to locals, a body was spotted floating in the Kajibacha River near Katianangla village in Batiaghata on Tuesday evening. They informed police, who later recovered the body after receiving a call through the national emergency hotline 999.

Mohammad Abul Khayer, in-charge of the Rupsa River Police Camp, said that the body seemed to have remained in water for several days. Since it matched the description provided by Rakib’s family, police thought that it was he. Then, the family members went to the spot and identified the body.

Kamrul Islam, the uncle of Rakib, also confirmed the identification.

Rakib went missing on September 1 after a ferry hit and sank a trawler at Jailkhana Ghat on the Bhairab River in Khulna city around 9:45 PM.
