Rangpur police file 4,025 cases in August

Police in Rangpur Range filed 4,025 cases and collected Tk 12.8 million in fines for traffic law violations in August as part of efforts to maintain road discipline.

The information was disclosed at a monthly review meeting on the overall law and order and crime situation at the Rangpur Range DIG’s office on Tuesday.

The meeting, chaired by Rangpur Range DIG Mohammad Abdul Mabud, also heard that police detained 720 vehicles in the division’s eight districts for various traffic offences during the month. The vehicles included four buses, 19 trucks, four microbuses and 693 motorcycles.

Police filed 1,926 cases over various crimes in the eight districts during August, including 105 theft cases.

As part of the anti-drug drive, 497 drug cases were filed and 635 people were arrested during the month. Police also seized 222.5kg of cannabis, 121 bottles of Phensedyl, 21,514 yaba tablets and 27g of heroin.

The DIG instructed police officials to step up operations against drug suppliers, dealers and others involved in the trade.

He also directed the district police superintendents to closely monitor the fertiliser supply and market situation and take immediate legal action against illegal stockpiling, artificial shortages, price manipulation and unauthorised buying and selling of fertiliser.

Police officials from the eight districts attended the meeting, where crime control, anti-drug operations, traffic management and public safety were also reviewed.

Thakurgaon Superintendent of Police Md Belal Hossain was later awarded the title of ‘Best Superintendent of Police’ based on the overall performance of the district police in August.
