NOAKHALI, Sept 9: Police seized 1,800 litres of suspected stolen diesel and 200 litres of mobile oil from a ferry pontoon in Hatia Upazila of Noakhali and arrested one person in connection with the incident.
The seized fuel and mobile oil are estimated to be worth Tk 3.27 lakh, police said.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatia Police Station Md Kabir Hossain confirmed the matter in a press release on Monday afternoon.
Police conducted the raid on the ferry pontoon on the east side of Nalchira Ghat in Char Ishwar Union around 10:15pm on Saturday following a tip-off.
The arrested man was identified as Md Jaker Uddin, 35, son of Khorshed Alam of Talukdar village in Char Ishwar Union.
Police said several people, including Shahed Uddin alias Tel Shahed, 28, and Md Riaz Uddin, 32, fled the scene during the raid.
Police later recovered 720 litres of diesel from four large metal drums, 900 litres from 30 plastic jerry-cans and another 180 litres from nine jerry-cans.
They also seized 200 litres of mobile oil from a large drum.
According to police, the seized diesel is worth around Tk 2.07 lakh, while the mobile oil is worth Tk 1.20 lakh.
OC Kabir Hossain said a case had been filed with Hatia Police Station against the arrested man for allegedly storing fuel without valid documents.
Police are conducting raids to arrest the other suspects who fled the scene.
