The 24th World Suicide Prevention Day is being observed today (Thursday) in Bangladesh, alongside countries around the world, through a range of programmes aimed at raising awareness, reducing stigma and promoting open conversations about suicide and mental health.
This year’s theme is “Changing the Narrative on Suicide” with the accompanying call to action “Start the Conversation.”
According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), suicide remains a significant public health concern in Bangladesh, with an average of about 13 people dying by suicide every day.
The nationwide programmes are being organised through a multi-sectoral collaboration involving key stakeholders.
