Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs State Minister Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin has provided deep freezers to five women’s residential halls at Chattrogram University (CU) to help students store food and other essentials.
The minister took the initiative after CU Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Ayubur Rahman Toufiq brought the issue to his attention.
The five halls are Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia Hall, Bijoy Chabbish Hall, Pritilata Hall, Nawab Faizunnesa Hall and Shamsunnahar Hall.
The deep freezers will be used primarily for food storage and other essential purposes by female residential students. University authorities and student representatives expect the equipment to ease some of the day-to-day difficulties faced by residents.
Toufiq said female students had long faced difficulties storing food in the residential halls.
“Today, that hardship is being addressed,” he said, expressing gratitude to the state minister for responding promptly to the students’ demands and taking steps to resolve the issue.
