Motorcyclist killed as truck hits in Magura

A motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a truck in Magura on Thursday morning.

The accident occurred in front of the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) office in Magura town at around 10:00 AM .

The deceased was identified as Basharul Islam, 45, a resident of Mollahpara in Parnanduali area of Magura town. He was the son of Abdus Sattar Molla and he was a counter manager for SD Paribahan at Magura bus terminal by profession.

According to locals, Basharul was heading towards Magura town from his home on a motorcycle in the morning. When he reached the area in front of the RHD office, he attempted to overtake a truck engaged in spraying water on the road.

At one point, his motorcycle collided with the truck and he lost control. He was thrown off the motorcycle and fell onto the road. As the truck moved backward after the collision, one of its wheels ran over his head, leaving him critically injured. He died on the spot.

Locals rushed to the scene and informed the police, Police from Magura Sadar Police Station later recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Magura 250-bed Hospital for autopsy.

The accident sparked anger among locals, who alleged that construction materials, including bricks, stones and sand, had been left beside and partly on the road in front of the RHD office. They said this had reduced the width of the road and created additional risks for vehicles.

They also said a bend in the road makes it difficult for vehicles approaching from one side to see those coming from the other, increasing the risk of accidents.

However, Magura RHD Executive Engineer Md Kaisar Hamid disagreed with the allegation that vehicles cannot see each other because of construction materials placed on the road.

Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge (OC) of Magura Sadar Police Station said, "Police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to the morgue of Magura 250-bed Hospital, he said, adding that legal proceedings were underway."
