2 bodies recovered from Narsingdi's Shitalakshya, 2 still missing

The bodies of two, out of four people who went missing after drowning in the Shitalakshya River in Shibpur, Narsingdi, have been recovered.

The deceased were identified as Shanto, 15, and Obaidullah, 38. 

A diving team recovered the bodies on Saturday morning.

Rescue efforts are still underway to locate the other two missing persons--Shanta, 16, and Sourav.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in the Lakhpur area of Dulatpur Union, when three of the victims, who had come to visit Majnu Mia’s house in the village, went to the river to bathe with family members.

Suddenly, the strong current swept the three into deeper water. As Sourav attempted to rescue them, he too was pulled under and went missing.

Locals rushed to the scene and searched the river but failed to locate the victims. Fire Service personnel subsequently launched a rescue operation at around 4:30PM, continuing until 5:30PM.

As the missing persons could not be found, the operation was suspended for the night and resumed on Saturday morning, when the bodies of Shanto and Obaidullah were recovered.
