Police recovered the dismembered body of an unidentified woman from a bag dumped in a garbage-filled canal at Hakkarpar in Adabor’s Balur Math area of the capital on Saturday (September 12) afternoon.
The remains included the woman’s head, both hands and parts of her body, while her two legs were still missing, police said.
According to police, a bag had been lying beside the canal for a long time, raising suspicion among passers-by. When locals pulled the bag out of curiosity, a hand was found protruding from it. Shortly afterwards, a head rolled out of the bag, prompting them to inform the police.
Adabor Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Zahidul Islam confirmed the recovery, saying the remains were found inside a schoolbag-like bag.
He said criminals may have killed the woman, dismembered her body and dumped the remains in the canal area.
Police are conducting a search for the missing legs and working to identify the victim and uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing.
