Police have arrested a Chhatra League leader in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act in Nabinagar, Brahmanbaria.
Mohammad Sohel Mia, 35, general secretary of the Nabinagar West Union unit of Chhatra League, was arrested from Nabinagar Bazar on Saturday and later sent to court.
Police said Sohel was named as an accused during the investigation of a case filed with Nabinagar Police Station in December 2024.
According to the case statement, police were informed that leaders and activists of the Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League and their affiliated organisations had gathered near Konikara Bridge on the Nabinagar-Radhika road and were allegedly attempting to create an unstable situation.
When police arrived some of those present allegedly threw bricks at them and tried to flee. Police arrested two people from the scene and seized 22 pieces of brick and 15 bamboo sticks.
The case was filed under Sections 6, 10, 11 and 12 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009, as amended in 2013.
