Maintaining clean environment thru collaborative efforts stressed

The nationwide Dengue Prevention and Cleanliness Campaign-2026 has been inaugurated in districts including Gopalganj, Jhenaidah, Joypurhat, Khulna, Narayanganj, Noakhali, Pirojpur and Rajbari on Saturday, putting emphasis on maintaining a clean environment through collaborative efforts.

GOPALGANJ: On the occasion, a three-month special programme has been launched in the district.
As part of the campaign, officials from various levels in the district and the upazilas joined the inaugural ceremony.

Marking the programme, local MP Dr K M Babar, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Arif-Uz-Zaman, Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Habibullah, Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Abu Sayeed Md Faruk, and other officials were present at the conference room of the DC Office.

Later, a rally was held, followed by a cleanliness drive in the area surrounding the 250-bed Gopalganj General Hospital. Mosquito-control chemicals were also sprayed using fogging machines.

JHENAIDAH: Prime Minister’s Political Assistant Rashed Khan said on Saturday that the Awami League may have been emboldened by Jamaat-e-Islami to stage recent protest marches despite a ban on its activities.

Speaking to reporters after joining a dengue-awareness rally in Jhenaidah, Rashed Khan alleged that the Awami League may have secretly communicated with Jamaat before organising protests in Gulshan and elsewhere in the capital.

“Perhaps they contacted Jamaat secretly and gained the courage to hold these marches,” he said, recalling that Jamaat joined the Awami League in 1996 to campaign against the BNP government.

Rashed Khan said Jamaat leaders have indicated they would not object if the Awami League returned to politics, but argued that the people would no longer accept the party’s politics.

He also accused Jamaat and the National Citizen Party of dividing anti-fascist forces, while saying the BNP wants to keep those forces united. He cited the 1990 anti-autocracy movement and the 2024 mass uprising as examples of BNP-led movements.

JOYPURHAT: The campaign began at the district collectorate complex after the inauguration at the DC office conference room.
District officials and workers cleaned the collectorate and surrounding areas. DC Al Mamun Mia, SP Shahnaz Begum, Zilla Parishad Administrator Masud Rana Pradhan, CS Dr Al Mamun and other government and municipal officials joined the cleanup.

Volunteers from Joypurhat Municipality, BD Clean, Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) and Rover Scouts assisted with the campaign.
Officials urged residents to keep their homes and surroundings clean and increase awareness to help prevent dengue and eliminate mosquito breeding sites.

KHULNA: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has launched a three-month dengue prevention and cleanliness campaign on Saturday to raise public awareness.

KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju inaugurated the rally at Shaheed Hadis Park that paraded through major city streets before returning to the park.

Speaking at the event, Manju said maintaining a clean environment is essential to preventing dengue and urged residents to keep their homes and surroundings clean.

Officials and employees of KCC, including Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Secretary Md Reza Rashid, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Chief Waste Management Officer Md Anisur Rahman and Chief Health Officer Dr Sharif Shammiul Islam and others joined the rally. 

At the divisional level, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun, KDA Chairman SM Shafiqul Alam, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Abu Sayed Md Manzur Alam and Director of the Divisional Health Department Dr Sheikh Md Mosharraf Hossain, among others, attended the programme.

NARAYANGANJ: On the occasion, a rally and cleanliness campaign was launched on Saturday morning under the initiative of the district administration.

A rally led by DC Md Raihan Kabir started in the morning from the front of Shaheed Riya Gop Stadium in Fatullah, on the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road, that paraded through various roads. During the rally, cleanliness activities were carried out at several locations, while mosquito-control chemicals were sprayed using fogging machines.

Among those present at the rally were SP Md Habibur Rahman, Sadar UNO S M Foyez Uddin, Fatullah Thana BNP President Shahidul Islam Titu, General Secretary Advocate Abdul Bari Bhuiyan, Organising Secretaries Riyad Mohammad Chowdhury and Ruhul Amin, and District Jubo Dal Member Secretary Mashiur Rahman Roni.

At the conclusion of the programme, DC Md Raihan Kabir said, “Since assuming office, the Prime Minister has initiated cleanliness drives across the country. He has called in the DCs of six districts - Narayanganj, Gazipur, Khulna, Barishal, Mymensingh, and Chattogram - and assigned them special instructions and responsibilities.”

NOAKHALI: The drive was launched here calling for greater public awareness, improved sanitation and the elimination of mosquito breeding grounds.

DC Mohammad Shafiqul Islam led the campaign, joined by SP NM Nasiruddin and officials from the district administration, police and health departments.

Political leaders, Red Crescent volunteers, Scouts, BNCC members, teachers, students and other volunteers also participated.

A public-awareness rally later passed through major town streets. Organisers distributed dengue-prevention leaflets to shopkeepers and residents and conducted cleanup operations in markets and surrounding areas, removing garbage and weeds and eliminating potential Aedes breeding sites.

PIROJPUR: DC Abu Sayeed, SP Mohamed Monjur Ahmed Siddique, Zilla Parishad Administrator and Central BNP Member Principal Alamgir Hossain, district level high officials, political party leaders, teachers, journalists and social workers were present in the opening ceremony.  

Speakers at the programme said, three points are to be considered during the campaign - finding out breeding spots of mosquitoes and destroy them, removing stagnant water and clean dirty environment. 
 
During the campaign, leaflet distribution among common people, miking and discussion meeting will be held on each Saturday.

RAJBARI: The joint initiative by the district administration, police, Zilla Parishad and Rajbari Municipality began after the prime minister inaugurated the nationwide campaign via video conference. Cleanup operations were conducted around the DC office, railway field and other areas.

Government officials and employees, teachers and students, Scouts, Bangladesh National Cadet Corps members and residents took part.
DC Office Assistant Commissioner SM Raihanul Islam said accumulated waste across the district would be cleared over the next three months. He warned that government offices, educational institutions and other organisations failing to maintain cleanliness would be held accountable.

District officials, including DC Afroza Parvin and SP Mohammad Manzur Morshed, attended the launch.
Residents welcomed the initiative and called for greater public awareness alongside government efforts to keep the district clean and liveable.
