
COX’S BAZAR, Sept 12: The newly elected executive committee of the Ukhiya Press Club took oath and assumed office on Thursday, pledging professional responsibility, unity and objective journalism.
The ceremony was held at the Ukhiya Press Club and was organised by the election commission. Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Islam Helali administered the oath and formally handed over responsibilities to the new committee.
Former Ukhiya Upazila Parishad chairman and local BNP President Sarwar Jahan Chowdhury attended the programme as the chief guest. Other guests included Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Mawlana Abul Fazal and Cox’s Bazar Press Club General Secretary (GS) Momtaz Uddin Bahari. Newly elected President Saifur Rahim Shaheen and GS Farukh Ahmad also spoke at the event.
The chief guest said journalism serves as a mirror of society and urged journalists to maintain professionalism while publishing truthful and objective reports. He hoped that the new leadership would work for journalists’ welfare and strengthen coverage of public-interest issues.
The event also welcomed eight new members: Palash Barua, Shahidul Islam, Nishan, Iftekhar, Shahed Hossain Mubin, Nabi Hossain, Imran Al Mahmud and Salah Uddin.
