BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that people holding opposing views had no guarantee of living safely during Sheikh Hasina’s rule.

He made the remarks in Feni on Sunday while handing over the keys to a new house to the family of slain Jubo Dal leader Harunur Rashid.

Rizvi alleged that opposition activists lived in fear of enforced disappearances, secret killings and extrajudicial killings during the previous government. He also referred to deaths during the July-August 2024 protests, alleging that police and Rab were responsible for bloodshed.

Harunur Rashid was killed in police firing during a pro-strike procession in Feni town on December 4, 2013, according to Rizvi.

At the programme, organised by BNP Poribar, Rizvi said people who supported opposition views or opposition parties had been denied their right to live safely and normally.

He alleged that people lived in constant fear of being abducted, killed or subjected to extrajudicial killing.

“Those who held opposing views or supported opposition parties had no right to live. They could not lead a normal life. They lived under a brutal and violent regime where nobody knew who would disappear or be killed,” Rizvi said.
