Leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh will seek a meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to press for amendments to the Transfer of Property (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the organisation, chaired by its Ameer Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari in Dhaka on Sunday.

The leaders expressed concern that the recently passed law could create legal complications regarding heba, or gifts, under Muslim law. They protested that the bill was passed in Parliament without adequate consultation with Islamic Shariah experts.

Hefazat leaders claimed that the bill conflicts with the Quran and Sunnah. They said scholars, Islamic law experts and legal experts should be consulted when laws concerning Muslim personal law and religious provisions are enacted or amended.

The meeting also condemned recent remarks by the law minister and chief whip. The leaders said the Shariah and legal basis of objections to the law should be examined instead of questioning whether those raising objections had studied the law.

They called for the disputed provisions to be reconsidered and amended to protect the practice of heba and the rights of Muslim heirs.

The meeting decided to form a delegation comprising Hefazat leaders and Islamic jurisprudence experts to meet the prime minister and present their position on the law.

The leaders said they would continue their protest against the bill through peaceful and lawful means and urged the government to resolve the issue through discussions with Islamic scholars and legal experts.
