Election buzz grows in 8 Char Fasson unions

CHAR FASSON, BHOLA, Sept 13: Election fever has gripped eight unions of Char Fasson Upazila in Bhola, with potential candidates already stepping up activities ahead of the announcement of the election schedule.

Following political changes and realignments at both national and local levels, growing enthusiasm is being seen among voters and potential candidates over the upcoming local government elections. As the Election Commission's final schedule draws closer, political activities have intensified across rural communities, creating a festive atmosphere.

Eight of the upazila's 21 unions are reportedly free of legal complications and ready for elections. They are Char Madraj, Nurabad, Charkolmi, Hazari Ganj, Jahanpur, Aowazpur, Dhalchar and Ahammedpur.

According to Election Commission sources, all administrative and legal preparations for holding elections in the eight unions have been completed. The formal schedule could be announced at any time.

Potential candidates for chairman, general member and reserved women's member posts have already started visiting voters from morning until late at night.

They are holding courtyard meetings, exchanging views with residents and conducting informal campaigns in neighbourhoods to strengthen their positions. Markets, bazaars and tea stalls have been covered with greeting banners, festoons and posters featuring potential candidates.

At village intersections and tea stalls, discussions are now focused on who is contesting from which panel and which candidate has the stronger support base.

Grassroots voters, meanwhile, said they have begun assessing potential candidates and want to elect honest and competent representatives. Many are particularly looking for leaders capable of improving living standards and ensuring civic services for people in the char areas.

They want a free, fair and credible election through which honest, competent and people-friendly representatives will be elected.

The upazila election office said preparations have been completed for delimiting electoral areas, updating the final voter list, finalising polling centres and arranging other logistics for the eight unions.

Once the Election Commission gives the go-ahead or announces the formal schedule, specific election dates and schedules will be announced, and the final electoral process will begin.

The local administration and upazila election office are monitoring the overall situation to maintain law and order and ensure a proper election environment.

Local political observers believe election-related activities will intensify several times after the schedule is announced. The emerging election atmosphere has already brought a festive mood to the grassroots communities of Char Fasson.
