Two cousins drown in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, Sept 13: Two cousins, aged 9 and 10, drowned while picking water lilies from a fish enclosure in Dariyala Village of Mollahat Upazila of the district on Sunday morning. Neither child knew how to swim.
The victims were Lamia Akter Jannati, 10, daughter of Mostain Sheikh, and Samia, 9, daughter of Mostak Sheikh. Both were class one students at Dariyala Government Primary School.

A neighbour found Samia’s body floating in the enclosure around 8 am. Family members then searched for Lamia and recovered her unconscious from the water. She was taken to Mollahat Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared her dead.

Police handed over the bodies to the families without autopsies after relatives raised no objections, said Sub-Inspector of Mollahat Police Station Prosen Kumar Sana.
