Seven-year-old girl raped, killed and buried under house floor

A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed before her body was buried under the floor of a house in Madarganj upazila, Jamalpur. Police recovered her body and arrested a man in connection with the incident on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Mariam Bushra, daughter of Bahadur Mondal of Char Lotabar village in Sidhuli Union. She was a Class I student at Sidhuli Government Primary School.

The arrested man is Jaminur Islam, 32, son of late Altafur Rahman of the same area.

According to police, Mariam left home for school at around 8:30am on September 10 but did not reach the school. After failing to find her, her father filed a general diary with Madarganj Model Police Station.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided Jaminur’s house at around 2am on Sunday and recovered the child’s body buried beneath the floor. Jaminur and his wife, Bibita Begum, were initially detained.

Police said questioning revealed that Jaminur had taken the child into his room and allegedly raped and killed her before burying her body. He later asked his wife to keep the incident secret.

Madarganj Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Snehashish Roy said Jaminur had been shown arrested and sent to court on Sunday afternoon. The investigation is underway.

Mariam’s father, Bahadur Mondal, said he wanted the highest punishment for those responsible for his daughter’s death.
