National Citizen Party (NCP) on Sunday announced Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan and Nasiruddin Patwary as mayoral candidates for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections respectively.
NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam announced the names on September 13 at a view-exchange meeting with prospective councillor candidates from different wards of DNCC and DSCC at the party’s office in the capital.
The announcement formally puts the two senior NCP figures at the centre of the party’s electoral preparations for the capital, as the party moves to consolidate its organisational presence across Dhaka’s two metropolitan jurisdictions.
Nahid directed prospective councillor candidates to identify suitable contenders for their respective wards and address local civic concerns. He also instructed them to maintain regular contact with the families of those killed and injured during the July uprising and remain vigilant against what the party described as “subversive activities” by the ousted and fugitive Awami League.
