Police have arrested a woman’s lover, his mother and an associate over the murder of Dolly Akter, 30, whose dismembered and decomposed body was recovered from a canal in a suitcase and plastic sack in Joydebpur, Gazipur.
The arrested are Mishan Islam, 22, his mother Banu Akter, 43, and Mizanur Rahman Milton, 24. All three have reportedly confessed before a court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
According to PBI, Dolly and Mishan had been in a relationship for around five years after meeting at the same garment factory. Dolly visited Mishan’s rented home, where they had dinner with his mother. Mishan allegedly gave Dolly sleeping and allergy medication and later strangled her with a lungi before suffocating her with a pillow at around (September 8) 2 AM. He hid the body under the bed.
The next morning, Banu found the body, and the three allegedly planned to dispose of it. As the body did not fit in a suitcase, Mishan cut it in half at the waist using a blade and machete. One part was placed in a suitcase and the other in a plastic sack.
Mishan and Milton later dumped them into a canal near Bhabanipur Bridge after travelling through Rajendrapur. Milton reportedly learned what the bags contained only after blood got on his hand and Mishan told him it was Dolly’s body.
The remains were recovered on September 11. Dolly’s brother Sohel filed a murder and body-disposal case against unidentified suspects the following day.
PBI arrested the three suspects on September 12 and recovered a machete, Scotch tape remnants, Dolly’s NID card, mobile phone and shoes from Mishan’s rented home. Investigators also collected CCTV footage and information related to the suitcase purchase.
PBI said crime-scene analysis, technology and intelligence helped identify Dolly and uncover the circumstances behind the murder.
