KU VC meets President Fakhrul at Bangabhaban

Khulna University (KU) will hold its 7th Convocation on January 18 next year following final approval from President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rezaul Karim met President and KU Chancellor Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban on Monday (September 14).

During the meeting, they discussed the overall development of the university along with preparations for the upcoming 7th Convocation. The President expressed his consent to hold the convocation on January 18.

The Vice-Chancellor briefed the President on current academic and research activities at the university. He highlighted KU's research excellence in key areas including the Sundarbans, coastal environment, salinity, climate change, and disaster management.

Prof Rezaul Karim also pointed out existing infrastructural challenges, such as housing shortages for students, inadequate classrooms, and limited field laboratory facilities.

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called upon KU to play a pivotal role in national policy-making through research excellence.

Located in the southwestern region, the university possesses immense potential for applied research on coastal ecosystems, climate change, and salinity, the President noted. He added that such research can significantly contribute to Bangladesh's future development planning.

The President recalled his past memories associated with Khulna University and its faculty members. He gave guidelines for further improving the quality of education and research.

He wished the university well for the successful organization of its 7th Convocation and assured full support from his office.
