Schoolgirl commits suicide after alleged rape in Panchagarh: 2 arrested

A ninth-grade student committed suicide by drinking poison in Panchagarh Sadar Upazila following an alleged gang rape orchestrated by her boyfriend.

Police have arrested two key suspects the boyfriend, Sohel ,25, and his accomplice, an easy-bike driver named Rafiqul Islam ,23.

According to the case statement, Sohel lured the girl from her home on the night of September 10 and took her to a house in the Rajmahal Purbabagan area, where she was sexually assaulted. While returning home late at night, she faced further molestation by strangers on an easy-bike but escaped by jumping from the moving vehicle.

Overwhelmed by the trauma and humiliation, the victim ingested poison the next morning. She was rushed to Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital, where she passed away after three days of treatment.

The victim's brother filed a case at Panchagarh Sadar Police Station against three named individuals.

Inspector (Investigation) Ashish Kumar Sheel confirmed the arrest of two accused, stating that drives are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects while the body has been sent for an autopsy.
