Intellectually disabled woman raped in Kurigram's Fulbari

Police have arrested a for allegedly raping a 25-year-old intellectually disabled woman in Fulbari Upazila of Kurigram.

The accused is Shahjalal Mia,35, son of Ahsan Ali.

The victim, a mother of one, was resting at her home in Kishamat Prankrishna village on the afternoon of September 9 when Shahjalal from the same area, allegedly entered the house and assaulted her. Although locals rushed to the scene upon hearing her screams, the perpetrator managed to flee.

Following an unsuccessful attempt by local influential figures to hush up the incident, the victim filed a formal complaint at the police station on September 15.

Acting on the complaint, Fulbari Police arrested Shahjalal from East Dhaniram village on Tuesday morning, confirmed Sub-Inspector Abdul Awal, the investigating officer of the case.

Fulbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmud Hasan Nayeem confirmed the arrest, stating that the accused was produced before a court and sent to jail on Tuesday afternoon, while the victim was sent to Kurigram for a medical examination.
