The government is introducing a system to instantly verify bank account numbers when purchasing savings certificates to prevent investors from facing problems in receiving profits or principal due to incorrect account details.
The Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance disclosed the decision on Monday.
According to the National Savings Directorate, 3,946,224 individual customers are currently registered with the National Savings Scheme Online Management System (NSC System).
Around 175,000 electronic fund transfers (EFTs) are processed daily on average, while nearly 8,000 new savings certificates are issued each day.
The new system is expected to help reduce errors and discrepancies in bank account information across a large number of transactions, the directorate said.
